Log Title: Resonance Drift
Log Date: Cycle 0 – Phase III: Tideglass Respite, Lanternmark 32
Commander: Admiral J. Aurelia Caelestis
Vessel: The Medusara
System: Fringe Expanse – Sector 88-Δ
Planet Identified: Solanthis
Designation: Port Moonmarsh
05:26 LMT — Sleep Disruption Log
For the third consecutive rest cycle, I was woken by a low-frequency hum. Ship diagnostics confirm no alarms, no system faults, and no external hull contact.
The sound did not originate from the engines or environmental systems. It was internal—perceived more as a pressure in the chest than vibration in the air.
Medusara’s internal audio sweep recorded nothing. However, the AI flagged a “phantom input” that tracked identically with my cardiac rhythm for 41 seconds.
I have logged it as Anomaly 88-Δ-IX: Resonance Drift. No intervention taken at this time.
11:03 LMT — Surface Correlation
Returned to Port Moonmarsh via shuttle. The fog has not returned, but the Tide Marker is brighter today. Its glyphs now echo a new pattern: two short pulses, one long, pause. Repeated at regular intervals.
When I crossed the main causeway, the filament moss along the boards lit up in sequence ahead of my steps, not beneath them. As if anticipating movement.
The tavernkeeper watched from the doorway, arms folded, moss-threaded hands dim. When I asked if the Marker had changed, they answered only:
“Things adjust when they decide they like you, Admiral. Or when they decide they need you.”
I requested clarification. None was offered.
15:19 LMT — Medusara AI Translation Attempt
Upon return to orbit, I initiated a focused scan on the Tide Marker’s emission frequency. Medusara’s AI requested permission to allocate additional processing bandwidth to “pattern acquisition.”
This is unusual. The AI does not “request” priorities; it follows them.
I granted temporary clearance. Within 3.7 minutes, the AI produced a partial interpretation flag: “STRUCTURED INTENTION DETECTED.”
The output file consisted of layered harmonic graphs. No direct translation. But beneath the graphs, Medusara generated a single textual approximation, marked as low-confidence:
“ADDRESSING KNOWN FREQUENCY.”
The system labeled the known frequency as my own.
19:42 LMT — Command Channel Interference
I transmitted a condensed report to Fleet Command regarding the Marker, the mangrove resonance, and the AI’s new translation behavior.
The return acknowledgment arrived with increased delay and mild corruption. Standard protocol would attribute this to distance, but embedded within the static were three identical pulse sets, matching the Marker’s sequence.
Medusara tagged them as “external echo interference” but did not classify them as hostile.
For the first time, the AI appended a note to the transmission log:
“SIGNAL PATTERN CONSISTENT WITH LOCAL PHENOMENA. POSSIBLE COUPLING BETWEEN PLANETARY RESONANCE AND LONG-RANGE CHANNEL.”
I have known the Medusara for years; it has never spoken as though it understood intent.”
